I picked the rear socket just because it's in the center box(?) and I might not use it that often. So, I decided to connect the cam to one of the fuses of the lighter sockets. (There's a possibility of battery drain, so if you want to take that path, you'd better get one of these devices that cut the power when battery power got lower than specified threshold.) I thought of recording it for 24/7 for a second by connecting it to the battery, but it seemed too much. I haven't tried this yet since people said, the clip part need to be broken and I need to get the clip part to put the pillar back on. After some research, I found that I have to hit a little bit above the "side airbag" mark really hard to get it detached. So I tried to detach the A-pillar, but it didnot work. This way, it would not interfere the airbag when it has to be. One tip I got from the boards is that I should run the wire behind the folded airbag. I tried this when I was testing, and realized that "tucking" the wire would interfere the side airbags. Then, I tucked the wire between the hood and the top of the side A-pillar to get to the window seal, and ran it down to the closest position to the fuse box. ![]() It seemed to work fine, so I decided to make it permanent.įrom the camera, I ran the power wire under the hood liner ( there's enough space between the front windshield and the hood.) I installed this cam right behind the rear view mirror and tested it for few days using the front power socket. When parked, the Cobra SC 400D will sleep but still monitor your cars surroundings and activate if movement is detected.I was going to ask a question about a fuse, but I guess it might be helpful for others (who are considering to install a dashboard cam) if I also share what I have done/tried so far. The battery is out so it can’t run anymore.Įnter parking mode to monitor when the vehicle is left in the parking position. Your unit will not turn off unless the internal battery has already been turned off. ![]() Why does my Cobra dash cam keep turning off? A chiming noise will appear and the dashboard screen will turn white. Search for the device, select the drive HD for pairing. Please open the Bluetooth settings on your Android or IOS device. How do I connect my Cobra dash cam to my phone? Not to mention the incredible benefit of the voice commands and heads up navigation while using GPS. It also allows your Cobra SC 400D (and other Cobra Products) to give you warnings about red light sites, speed traps, and other hazards from a countrywide network of drivers sensors. It’s a mobile application that lets you remotely control compatible Cobra dash cams. Not it works for a little then stops, other mounts failed day one in Texas weather. With other dash cams, a common issue I run into is that the suction mount doesn’t work. Having a sticker mount, magnetic mount and suction cup included is what made this stand out from dash cams I’ve used in the past. Not to mention the app gives users the ability to share video files with other members of the drive smarter community. I caught myself watching my SC 400D footage whenever I was bored. Between voice commands, speed cameras, red light, emergency contact, and easy access to video files – the app has it all. The Drive Smarter app is useful for video file management. The GPS navigation camera detects speed with minimal latency. There’s a significant jump in quality and features compared to the Cobra SC 200D, SC 201 and SC 100, which are Cobra’s more affordable options. However, the technology has definitely improved compared to previous generations. It really can’t be overstated because the front camera quality is among the best I’ve tested since starting this site, so I’ll probably mention it a few more times.Īt night though, the rear camera isn’t good enough to capture license plates unless the vehicle is close behind you. ![]() I could tell on my first use that the SC 400D had insane HDR video quality and a great camera sensor at night. Out of everything I experienced, I have to say that the camera images are top-tier.
